Servo Actuator

Below is a simple illustration of how a servo actuator works. By applying movement to the metal swing arm it sends a signal to the processor in what position it is, which in turn gives an instruction, after applying a position algorithm, to the motor to move to the same position.

For those who know, setting up a motor to act as a servo can be challenging due to the 'hairy' second-order control mathematics that is involved, but here we managed to find a much easier way... and yes it is a stepper motor, but no, it is not a straight forward as it looks ;-)

This now opens the door for us to be able to develop a stabilized platform onto which equipment, e.g. a camera, laser pointer etc., can be mounted, which can be kept in a specific orientation irrespective of the movement of the base it's mounted on.
